Beth Moore Bible Study - A Heart Like His

corner_ul_left.gif corner_ul_right.gif corner_ur_left.gif corner_ur_right.gif

Family Life Movement will present a Women’s Bible study by renowned speaker and author, Beth Moore for 11 weeks starting April 16th. “A Heart like His” is an in-depth study of King David, focusing on his years as God’s chosen king of Israel. Beth invites you to join her on an exciting and intimate journey to know King David, the man after God’s own heart. In this study David will make you laugh and cry. He will delight and disappoint you. He will make you want to be just like him at times and nothing like him at others. The study demonstrates how God loved and was able to use David despite his disobedience, and it offers many lessons for those seeking to have a heart like God’s.

The deadline for registration is April 6th, so we know how many to workbooks to order. There is a $25.00 charge for the study and workbook. For further information you may contact Sharon Forrest at 412-761-1100 or Cindy Thomas at 412-257-3029.

Family Life Movement is an initiative of the Episcopal Church Women. It is a ministry for our diocese, organizing and supporting events for the purpose of reaching out to, teaching and equipping women and building families in Christ. We are biblical based women concerned for the spiritual health and Godly transformation of individuals, families and children in the household of Christ.

Fall Ingathering Focused on Blessings

corner_ul_left.gif corner_ul_right.gif corner_ur_left.gif corner_ur_right.gif

We were blessed to have a presentation from Elizabeth Hobbs, Past President. She gave a wonderfully inspiring talk about God’s presence in heartwarming situations throughout her life’s walk thus far. She also gave opportunities for others to share how God had revealed Himself to them in uplifting circumstances. Elizabeth encouraged us to be open to and aware of the opportunities that He places before us in our everyday life, so that we might enjoy the bountiful blessings He wishes to bestow on us in various ways

Holy Eucharist was led by Bishop Duncan with a sermon by David Wilson, priest-in-charge of St David’s.

It was voted that each parish will be given $150 seed money for mission projects, preferably for youth, from the Endowment funds which are managed by the Diocesan Trustees, and the ECW Finance Committee . Bishop Henry has a wonderful short term mission experience for anyone without other ideas for the funds or without a youth group as such.

A Message from our President

corner_ul_left.gif corner_ul_right.gif corner_ur_left.gif corner_ur_right.gif

Dear Sisters in Christ,

To that end, to the end of letting God make us fit for what He’s called us to be, the ECW/Family Life Movement has scheduled two long term opportunities and one lovely day.

The opportunities:
A workshop on Forgiveness, led by Fr. Gary Miller, August 14th, 21st , and 28th at Grace Church Mt. Washington. Forgiveness is an essential place to begin to find out what Jesus’ kingdom looks like on earth, as it is in heaven, and how to act towards each other in that kingdom.

An 11 week Bible study on the Fruit of the Spirit, taught by Beth Moore on DVD, and facilitated by Cindy Thomas and myself. The first session is September 4th in Avalon at the Diocesan House of Prayer. These are life-tools God gives us to “make us fit for what He’s called us to be.”

The lovely day is the Fall Ingathering October 11th at Trinity Cathedral. Our speaker is ECW Past President Elizabeth Hobbs, and she will share with us some of how God has made her fit for what He has for her to be and do among us. A short business session, a glorious Eucharist, a tasty luncheon shared among friends…we’d love for you to join us.

You can find out about all these ECW/FLM events elsewhere in this newsletter. Please join us as we are being equipped to go in the paths our Lord has made for us to walk in.

In Jesus’ strong name,

Sharon Forrest, President
ECW Board
Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh

Mother's Union Update

corner_ul_left.gif corner_ul_right.gif corner_ur_left.gif corner_ur_right.gif

Untitled3.pngIt is with great pleasure that I bring greetings from Bishop Stanley and his wife Beatrice and from the thousands of Christians in the Masindi Kitara Diocese. The people of Uganda are people who understand the meaning of greeting visitors. When visiting this amazing part of the world, you are welcomed with open arms, treated to delicious food and invited to share in the lives of these wonderful and generous friends.

Thanks to the ECW, the diocesan compound will soon have four new water pipes. They will be located at the cathedral, the diocesan training center, the Mother’s Union Tailoring School and at the diocesan offices where the Mother’s Union has their office. Thanks to your generous gift, water will be easily available for washing hands, washing floors and to put in pots for cooking and for boiling drinking water. Until now, a long walk was required to get water, now it will be closer and easily attained.

It has been an honor and privilege for our daughter Abby and I to spend 2 months with the wonderful people of Uganda and especially for me to meet the children and teachers of the area. We had the joy and sorrow of delivering many dolls, hand made by the people of our diocese, to the children in the pediatric ward of the Hoima Hospital. Thank you for your concern for the children and for your kind gifts. Please continue your prayers for them and that we may someday soon return with a short term team to minister together.

Thanks again for your financial and prayerful support.

In His Amazing Adventure,
The Rev. Deb and Abby Carr
